SPARK! - Paine Art Center and Gardens

February 23, 2022

1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

About SPARK!

On the last Wednesday of each month, the Paine hosts a free program for people with memory loss and their care partners - SPARK! Together we enjoy activities related to art, gardens, and current events or exhibitions at the Paine.

SPARK! welcomes care partners to stay actively engaged in their communities while experiencing art, culture and nature in a comfortable, small-group environment with specially trained staff and volunteers. The programs are not reminiscent, nor do they rely on recalling memories, but rather focus on observations, conversations, and creative experiences.

Facilitators are vaccinated.

Gallery Talk on Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence

Wednesday, February 23, 2022
1:00-2:00 pm

This month's SPARK! program will have a very special guest speaker, the Paine's Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Laura Fiser, to teach us more about the Paine’s spring exhibition, Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence. This exhibition showcases a new form of bead art, the “ndwango,” developed by a community of women living and working together in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Temporary Closure

The Paine will be closed to the public January 11–February 18, 2022.

The Paine requires that all visitors wear face masks while indoors. (Children ages 2 and under do not need to wear a face mask.) Please plan to bring your face covering with you. If you are unable to wear a mask, we ask that you delay your visit until the risk of the pandemic recedes.
