Q&A with Kirsty Mitchell
September 18, 2017
7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
For this free public program, three faculty members of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh will facilitate a conversation with Kirsty Mitchell about her artwork. The Q&A program will be held at UWO in Sage Hall, room 1214, and free parking is available in Lots 7 and 13. No reservation is required for the program.
Kristy Mitchell is a fine art photographer from England whose exhibition Wonderland is on view at the Paine Art Center and Gardens from June 17-October 15, 2017. Trained as a fashion designer and inspired by fairy tales and literature, Mitchell created elaborate costumes and props to compose and then photograph fantastical scenes in lush landscapes resulting in the series of works on view at the Paine. The series is a tribute to her mother, who passed away from a brain tumor in 2008, and the endeavor culminated in the extraordinary book Wonderland, documenting the seventy-four photographs in the collection and now in its second edition.
The UWO faculty facilitating the discussion with Mitchell are Kathleen Donnelly, a costume designer and professor; Allison Welch, a photographer and photography professor; and Christine Roth, an English literature professor. They will each ask Mitchell questions about her creative process and artwork from the perspective of their professional disciplines as well as their personal interests. Audience members will also be invited to ask Mitchell questions.
This program is presented by ArtsCore, a partnership between UWO and the Paine supporting professional development for educators who teach in and through the arts.
